WIPA 2008 - 80 Years of Hundertwasser

Zoom in

From September 18 – 21, 2008, the Vienna International Stamp Exhibition (WIPA 2008) took place at the Austria Center in Vienna.

Since Friedensreich Hundertwasser would have celebrated his 80th birthday on December 15, 2008, a memorial minisheet was issued on September 18 at the WIPA to honor his art (as was also done at WIPA 2000).

The designs were originally unissued drafts of stamps that Hundertwasser designed in 1974 at the same time that he designed the stamp that became the “Spiral Tree”. These alternate designs were published only as an insert in the presentation folder for “Spiral Tree”.

At WIPA 2008, The Austrian Post Office issued a stamp book about Friedensreich Hundertwasser, similar to the previously issued book on Gustav Klimt. It was published by Verlag Ferrytells.

The book includes the Hundertwasser minisheet, a color print and eight personalized stamps with designs of Hundertwasser stamps issued by various post offices.
