On 6th February 2001, the below article appeared in "TZ Zeitung" (Abensberger, Germany). Please see the translation into English, right of the image.
Friedensreich Hundertwasser passed away a little over one year ago. He died on 19th February 2000 at the age of 71, on board the cruiser "Queen Elisabeth II". His last work will now be built in the small Holledau-town Abensberg. "The Beer-Flower" is the name of the multi-coloured tower, appr. 70 meters tall, which is designed with a golden onion dome. The tower will be built by the malt beer brewery "Kuchlbauer" in Abensberg, which will build the tower true to Hundertwasser's ideas. The brewery director Leonard Salleck is planning to open a small "Bierstube" (pub) on the ground floor and the first floor. On the upper floors there will be "creativity rooms" for children, and a full floor will be consecrated to the Hundertwasser-cult. The total cost will be 7 million Deutschmark (appr. 3.5 Million US-dollars). The citizens and local authorities are now studying the plans, and the works will start during the summer 2001. This will for sure be a more than worthy living memory of Hundertwasser, which he would have been more than proud to inaugurate. |
